Durgadas Allon Duriel is an Evolutionary Astrologer, psychotherapist, mystic, occultist, and musician. For him, mysticism, Astrology, psychotherapy, and music are all dimensions of a timeless, sacred journey: to know thyself. His work with others aims to facilitate their understanding of, and connection with, themselves at deeper, more authentic levels.
Durgadas began studying Astrology in 2005. Over the years, he’s attended a variety of Astrology classes and workshops, and he worked closely in semi-apprenticeship with a professional astrologer from ‘05-‘07, receiving weekly astrological education and guidance. He’s read hundreds if not thousands of natal charts, which he believes is the most important aspect of astrological education after the basics are mastered.
In addition to being an astrologer, Durgadas is a licensed clinical social worker with a master’s degree in social welfare from UCLA. He’s also a certified holistic health practitioner through Mueller College of Holistic Studies, a Reiki Two practitioner, and a coach, having completed Central New Mexico Community College’s financial coaching training and participated in a variety of coaching workshops. Durgadas maintains an active psychotherapy practice that’s separate from his astrological work, and while his astrological sessions are not psychotherapy, he does incorporate knowledge from his psychotherapy background where appropriate*. Durgadas also reads Tarot cards, which was one of his first jobs, and he works with the Tarot as part of his spiritual practice.
Drawn to mysticism from early childhood, Durgadas began participating in earth-based spirituality, witchcraft, and Goddess traditions in elementary school, self-initiating into the latter in high school. In 2004, he moved from Maryland to Southern California, where he initiated into a Western Mysteries tradition that integrated Yogic philosophy and meditation with Kabbalah and occult ritual. He trained there intensively for 30 to 40 hours a week over the course of two-and-a-half years. Durgadas has maintained a daily practice of meditation and ritual since then, and he continues to study Yogic philosophy, occultism, and Kabbalah. He completed daily study of the Himalayan Academy’s Master Course in 2007 and 2008, and has met a variety of spiritual teachers from around the world. Between 2011 to 2018, he traveled to India five times, as well as across the US and Europe, to learn from an Indian spiritual teacher who embraces all religious affiliations and teaches a universal spirituality rooted in love, service, and compassion. She gave him his name, which means servant of Durga or servant of the Divine Mother in Her fierce aspect. Currently, Durgadas worships primarily with a coven of queer men and is working toward the goal of creating an open, drop-in temple dedicated to the Divine Mother and the Mysteries.
